Indian Head Massage
Posted On: 27 November 2008In October (2008), our head therapist, Shannon, studied with Narendra Mehta who formalized Indian Head Massage (Indian Champissage™).
Blind from the age of one, Narendra received head massage in the family home and at the barber, as in customary in India. Traditionally, women used oil (mustard, almond, olive and henna) focusing on the health of their hair while barbers gave an invigorating scalp massage. Incidently, the word ‘shampoo’ derives from the Hindi word ‘champi’ meaning ‘head massage’.
Narendra founded a holistic therapy by merging these two traditional ancient arts. The therapy includes the face, head, neck, upper arms and shoulders; areas which accumulate stress and tension. The rebalancing of the three higher Chakras (Visuddha, Ajna and Sahasrara) embraces an Ayurvedic element effectively treating the whole person.
It’s an ideal therapy to receive whether you need to recharge or relieve a headache! And remember there’s no equipment required making it ideal for the workplace.
